So hey, remember when I was crying about that silly little amnesia fic idea that wanted to Have a Plot, which I didn't know how to do? Took me a long time, but it's mostly done now. 🥳

I've set aside tomorrow to try and iron out any remaining kinks, after very valuable input from lunarriviera and nnozomi, but gosh it's been a STRUGGLE. I really want to write an epilogue too, but I also want to be DONE. WHY IS THIS SO HARD. Massive thanks to Sam for holding my hand through this entire process and to nnozomi for the detailed beta notes! 🫶

The whole thing is now roughly 23,000 words, and the first three chapters have been posted! The "plot", of course, has absolutely nothing to do with that Hart to Hart episode, but I still remember its 80's horniness and the horny Weilan thoughts it inspired very fondly. (The fic is T-rated, for convenient fade-to-black reasons, but not for a lack of trying on Zhao Yunlan's part.)

Scarf Guy takes a deep breath. "Call him," he says ominously, and Glasses looks up at a whiteboard on the wall, covered in photos and printouts.

"He's in class for another hour."

"Who?"

They all turn towards him, looking various shades of stricken.

"Oh no," Dungarees whispers. "This is bad."

I had an idea for a Weilan fic, most vaguely inspired by an episode of 1980's cult classic Hart to Hart, and now I'm 4000 words into this draft and nowhere near the scene I wanted to write, PLEASE WHY IS THIS SO HARD. I've been sharing snippets with friends (*waves at lunarriviera*) as I manage to drag the words from my brain onto the page, but I'm still not sure I'm ever going to finish this, EVEN THOUGHT I REALLY WANT TO WRITE THIS ONE SCENE.

(The problem is that I last posted a fic almost two months ago and I'm craving that serotonin, so I want to write something short and post it, but also I'm not one of those people who can start a hundred WIPs and then jump around between them; I need to start and finish one thing and then do the next. AND THIS IS TAKING FOREVERRRRR.)

Anyway, 4000 words is already longer than most of my Guardian fics, so please look at this snippet and pat me on the head, maybe that'll help!

For the Shen Wei square on my Guardian Bingo card, I got it into my head to save all the promo images off the Guardian Weibo and make a hi-res Shen Wei picspam, so here we are.

(This was made possible by the Download Weibo Images & Videos script for Tampermonkey, which is seriously a game changer. It still requires some work to get to all the individual posts one by one, but then it's just a button click to download the whole photo grid! OMG. Anyway, so that's how I spent my day.)

Would I try this again? Yeah! It was fun, in a kind of nerve-racking way, and I do have the molds now. I'll probably try and find golden syrup next time, and use more filling.

End of year events:

My tree is up over at fandomtrees! I've reused a lot of elements from last year's tree, plus my Guardian wishlist and a new fandom. Asking for Guardian, DMBJ, and Parallel World fanworks and various actor icons this year. 😊

I briefly thought about doing the holiday love meme, but last year's attempt was kind of a sobering affair (three replies after linking to it multiple times), so I was like, let's not! 😄 I didn't sign up for any holiday exchanges, so that leaves fandomtrees and Guardian Bingo for the rest of this year and early January! \o/ Hoping to create a few small things for people once work is less busy and there's time to kick back and be creative.

Okay, so. I considered skipping this, because a) I don't have a whole primer in me, b) the people who follow this account don't need me to tell them what Guardian is about, c) so many resources already exist in this fandom! so many!
